The Asian Tsunami, Dec 26 2004

300,000 people died and millions more lost their homes and loved ones in the Asian Tsunami that occurred on Boxing Day of 2004.

The Catholic Church in Singapore has responded by collecting donations in the first weekend immediately following the crisis, conducting services in remembrance of the victims, and conducting an island-wide consolidation mass on 14 January 05

To date, the Church has collected S$1,538,068. The money has been committed and most of it disbursed to about 13 reconstruction and rehabilitation projects for the Tsunami victims.

Volunteers have been mobilized to go on missions to help out the Tsunami victims. Several of these missions have involved lay volunteers from across all parishes in Singapore to build houses for Tsunami victims.
