Trip experience by ACCT Aug 19-27 team to Sri Lanka

by Karen Seet

On Aug 19 2005, 13 of us from all walks of life embarked on a mission with one common goal - to serve our brothers and sisters in Sri Lanka.

Our experience touched us deep within. Sri Lanka is indeed a beautiful and spiritual place with nice people and nice food.

When we left Singapore, we knew nothing of house building. While it was no mean feat we all had fun in cement mixing and plastering is now a breeze to some! We learnt to appreciate whatever little we have in Singapore. It is not necessary to have the best of everything but to make the best of whatever we have. After a hard day’s work we gathered to thank God and reflected on His daily mission for us. Some of us took time to marvel at the wonder of God?s creation, just lying and gazing at the stars above and the roaring waves. It was an experience for the body, mind and soul.

It surpasses all our expectations on the impact we had on the local community. The increasing hospitality extended to us with each passing day and the increased drive of the contracted masons, were clear indications that we were making a difference through our display of tenacity and teamwork, even as muscles groaned. This positive cycle of influence led the team, contractors and villages to collectively accomplish a lot more than we anticipated. We thank God for His calling to be part of a very dedicated team; and for the opportunity to leave an indelible foot print in the sand.
